Hard to believe this video was made by the great Anre Fuentes after he read Freak. It was an honor to be interviewed by him.

One of the worst things chronic abuse and bullying does to a child is it robs them of wonder. As Maya Angelou said, it introduces cynicism, and there is nothing so tragic as a cynical child. “They go from knowing nothing to believing nothing.” So keep this in mind, all of you out there, my brothers and sisters of circumstance: You are not a piece of shit. You never were. It was always a lie. And we are nobody’s dirty little secret.
