One of the worst things chronic abuse and bullying do to a child is it robs them of wonder. As Maya Angelou said, it introduces cynicism, and there is nothing so tragic as a cynical child. “They go from knowing nothing to believing nothing.” So keep this in mind, all of you out there, my brothers and sisters of circumstance: You are not a piece of shit. You never were. It was always a lie. And we are nobody’s dirty little secret.
